Canned food is ideal because it can survive floods and other damage. However, it's important to remember that even if a food can last “forever”, it may not survive a disaster if it gets wet or damaged. Caloric density is also important when it comes to survival food. You won't have much space in your bag, so you should choose foods that are high in calories and nutrition.

Water is even more important than food — you can go a month without eating but only three days without water. Microgreens such as watercress, alfalfa, etc., are a great way to get some freshness into your diet without taking up too much space or weight. It's also important to remember that the older generation has a wealth of knowledge from living through difficult times — if you're lucky enough to have elders in your family who can teach you, take advantage of their wisdom! Canned fruits and vegetables are great for long-term storage as they last longer on the shelf than fresh produce.

Canned meats are also an excellent option as they provide the same amount of protein as fresh meat but last much longer on the shelf. Grain alcohol is another useful item — it can be used in your medicine cabinet instead of rubbing alcohol to sterilize wounds and numb pain.
